+ What are the Australian Government's plans to censor the internet (the so-called "Clean Feed")?

From the Open Internet website, 'The Australian Federal Government has announced that it will introduce "mandatory ISP-level filtering of Refused Classification (RC) rated content." What this means is that Australian Internet Service Providers (ISPs) will now have to filter the Internet to block access to websites that would be "Refused Classification" under Australia's classification laws.'

+ What place does censorship have in a democracy?

Senator Kate Lundy wrote, via Margo Kingston on the online version of the Sydney Morning Herald, that 'democracies survive and thrive when they find ways to look at things that are confronting or disturbing or ugly or strange. One of the ways it does that is through the classification of material. What we are really doing, of course, is classifying people - identifying those who are too young, vulnerable and impressionable to have the fully formed opinions or sexual maturity to be able to understand the sometimes complicated context within which sit the messages and meaning of particular art works. It has never been about denying the entry of ideas.'

+ When will the NBN get to your place? What are the benefits?

The NBN will arrive within the next 3-8 years, depending on locations. The benefits include an increase in productivity in regards to bandwidth intensive services, a higher quality of application performance, high speed Internet and faster upload speeds.

Question: do you own this production? Consider whether you have created all the content yourself OR used content that is available to re-use under a creative commons license OR used freely available public domain material.

I believe that we own part of this production.

We did not create all the content ourselves. The content that we can claim as ours, are the majority of the dialogue,

Week 7 - Tutorial Task

Report on your progress in producing a video that you can embed on your blog. Remember, students can use mobile phones, home cameras or laptops to capture fresh footage that you definitely own the copyright to.

This week, Lucas and I, started to fine tune the details of the video.

Last week, we had written up a quick draft script as a brief guideline of where we wanted the video to head. We used this script and checked that we were still happy with the concept and proceeded to proof read what we'd written and double checked that each individual piece of dialog fit the 140 character limit that Twitter has.

We also experimented with different software programs that our laptops had, to figure out which one would be the most effective to film our screen captures. We learned that Quicktime on Lucas' MacBook had a screen recording function and it was very easy to use and navigate, so we decided to use that, as opposed to the one on my laptop, which none of us knew how to use.

Week 6 - Tutorial Task

Exploring Cheap AV Production Tools.

This week do a short report on different production tools that you might use and explain your basic concept in one sentence. Keep in mind
1) how you can add elements that you have created (photos, music, video from your phone etc) into the production,
2) problems you may have with copyright over elements that you did not create and
3) the dangers of defamation (saying or implying something that harms another's reputation).

Our group, Lucas, Shay and I, decided our concept was to explore "Twitter Wars" through the persona's of rival social networking sites Facebook and Google Plus.

As a group, we sat down and talked about the different ways that we could approach producing this video. We all agreed that it would be easiest, and the least hassle, to not go out and shoot videos. It would be more effective for us to use screen capture on the actual Twitter website as it would be easy to add and edit the video elements into production.

We were not that concerned too much with copyright, as we didn't want to use many elements that would infringe copyright laws. We also needed to be very careful with the content we were putting in the draft script as setting up a fake "war" between Facebook and Google Plus could easily lead to unintentional defamation.

Why is Hollywood having so much trouble adapting to the rise of the Internet? Is downloading killing Hollywood or could it be the path to new beginnings?

I think that the reason why the heavyweights of Hollywood are having so much trouble, is because the Internet is a medium that they have not fully understood and conquered.

The Independent Film Industry has been affected by financial and distribution aspects for many years. Juxtaposed to major film companies, independent films can build a bridge that can directly connect the filmmakers and their audiences. One example of this bridge is highlighted in an article through the company Horsethief Pictures and their film The Last Rites of Ransom Pride.
